Web Plugins Completely Broken Now

Dear Sven,

I would like to report a new failure with VAFS: web plugins have now completely failed and either show a "connection timed out" error or nothing at all. This is what my airline's website looks like right now.

Needless to say we are most displeased on several fronts but primarily because it is making our organization look wholly unprofessional and there is nothing we can do about it. One by one, core and basic functions of the software have stopped working. VAFS is now more reminiscent of FS9-era abandonware rather than the high-end paid ACARS system it is advertised to be.

For the love of god, please stop work on V6/V7 whatever until V5 is fixed and stabilized. The current version in its current state is flat out broken. There is no more concise way to put this.

Very disappointing.

I have used VAFS for years and wish only the best for it but right now Sven (and Mike) are displaying symptoms of the typical irresponsible misguided dev (EA/Ubi anyone?). Over-promise, under-deliver. Ignore critical issues while spending time on stuff like collecting money and promising even more. Throw a big tantrum, direct fault at the customer (or Microsoft), then when all else fails just stop responding. Classy.

I want to be able to make "VAFS 7" quickly, and properly! But like I have been saying this whole time, WE NEED TO START OVER ...
Can you first get v5 in order before throwing everything out for v7? This is the first time I've heard of any software development in which paying customers are left hanging out to dry while the owner carries on with his own life and leaves everything to a poor developer. I say, if Mike is no longer interested in the software, he'd do everyone a big favor by selling it off and giving full control over to someone (or some group) who has the time and skill to continue its development.

Isaac is too nice to tell you in the face but this is the reality: you are CHARGING PEOPLE to provide a SERVICE. If you're going to be uptight about on-time payments and shutting down people's airlines when they're a day late, you make damn well sure you hold up your end of the deal by providing the damn service. You may have your customers locked in with the VAFS ecosystem but I assure you this will not last for long. We've been carefully considering alternatives for a long time now and we're sure as hell not the only VAFS customers doing so.

If VAFS was EA, I would be putting out a new version every year with just updated graphics and rosters.

I see some very long posts, however details of which plugins are timing out are missing.

Post some links for me and I will see what i can do.

As far as I know, the problem is related to SSL certified that VAFS do not have yet. We have a similar problem.
Our web page host (and I can guess many others host sites too, like yours), do not accept plugins they consider "not safe enough", because those plugins are coming from a theoretically "non-certified" website, as VAFS is currently. I know VAFS plugins are safe, but our website host thinks different.

Since beggining 2017, our wesite only accepts plugins with an HTTPS protocol, but not with an HTTP one (as VAFS plugins are currently). That is the reason why, suddenly, all our inserted plugins did not work (as yours), giving a "poor" layout to our webpage, and looks as "abandoned" website. I presume you have exactly the same problem with your website host on Singapore Virtual.

After several interchange of comments with VAFS managers, no short-time solution is expected. We have only two choices:
1- Await for VAFS to get an SSL certified (which includes an extra cost, that may be shared and charged among VAFS users)
2- Look for an alternative website host that accept plugins with an HTTP protocol. That it is not easy, but can try.

Hope this can help you to understand what's up.

Hello Team,

We have the same issue in our website.
For some modules such as the display of new pilots, we had to develop plugins ourselves.
To be frank, our VA is going to be acceptable and good because we develop lot of tools ourselves.
I'm totally agreed with other members message, i'm using VAFS from now more than 6 years and we are the one of the BIG VA on VAFS, but i'm totally disappointing.

I have lost my trust in vafs for a long time. Hard maybe to read but totally true.
Now you are talking about VAFS6/7 from maybe 3 years ! We cannot explain or expose our problem without a tricky discussion with you guys.

Even today, i have such of pilots with blank pirep error, after the flight they are an java error message, pluging is not displaying properly...

Yet another thing, and I've already put it back to Mike. There may be technical problems, but it is obvious and always necessary to communicate with members, in other way your customers! They are NO general information behind to warn the other VA of what happened, or of what is happening, or even if it has been resolved? We always stay in the shadows.

Seriously i'm ready to buy VAFS at its fair and real value as today and pay a developer to continue the activity, because it is a pity to spoil the potential of this software and the entire community beyond that !

I never post a message every 2 days to rant or expose my disagreement... But if you still continue to ignore our messages, you will soon lose us all, for sure!

This is an issue related to SSL, and free sites not accepting anything that doesn't have the SSL Certificate (https://).

At this time, we will not comply with them. SSL is not cheap, and because of this, and the FACT that NO personal information is being used, there is NO reason for SSL!

Hi Sven,

So as per my understand, we cannot have a support or a proper fix to our web pluging issue. Then from 2012 we don't have any release or at least an proper update on VAFS6. Okay, we are buying VAFS5, but even that it's not properly working and all of our VA websites are impacted. But they are no solution.

Can you kindly advice Mike to reply to most urgent issue topic please. It ll be more gentle for oldest and royal like ours.

This does seem to be an ongoing theme. I have reworked my website but will most likely have to make some very hard decisions in the next couple of days. :(

It's very sad to know the way that we are treated ! But I think they are conscious that if they continue in this way...they will loose all the thinks they built very hard !

Even, i'm ready to help the team.. even i propose to buy the entire VAFS business to pay another Developer to keep the service for all VA depending on VAFS! ... but still no response ! :?

Even patience has limits...
