"Load saved flight" question

Post by elsmoko » June 22nd, 2015, 7:59 pm

Hi,

FSX (and my PC) froze during taxi at destination requiring a reboot.  When I successfully "loaded saved flight" with VAFS all looked good,

except it didn't place me on the taxiway;  it placed me about 5 nm out on the approach.  Not a problem, except VAFS was showing zeros

for my landing speed and touchdown descent rate.  So I got to practice a second approach to TNCM (can't get enough of those > right?  ~ :)

The second touchdown was good (not as good as the first).  So, when I parked and shutdown, VAFS processed the  flight as normal

except it credited me with the zeros for landing speed and touchdown descent rate.  Is it normal to receive zeros from VAFS for the
landing speed and descent rate after loading a saved flight ?  Or perhaps it was a glitch, or was caused by the stage / point in the flight
where my PC betrayed me?
Thank you,

Did you follow the start saved flight, as per the instructions? Where did you spawn into, before you restarted the flight?

I am going to guess you did it from the destination airport. When you click the 'Resume flight', it saw you at the destination airport with your parking brake set, and finished the flight. All while instantly starting to load the flight. Once the flight was loaded, in FSX, the VAFS flight was already over, thus why you could land again.

Hi Sven,
I followed all the instructions carefully.  Loaded the aircraft at the origin (PHNL), on runway. Not sure, but I believe that prior to pressing the
VAFS "Resume Flight" button, the engines were off (C & D) and the parking brake was set.

Hmmm ... Do you have the client set to end the VAFS flight after engine shutdown?

That tells me that it is reading the state of the aircraft and reporting it back to the client, before it starts to load the flight. Thus, ending the flight before it can resume. Do you have the flight log link handy?

Hi Sven,
Lately, FSX has sometimes been "freezing" late on my long haul flights and I am still seeing the same issues
when I "Resume Saved Flight". After loading the FSX aircraft (PMDG T7) and pressing the Resume Saved Flight
button all goes perfectly except the VAFS5 "In Flight Information" tab / "VAFS Flight Messages" block states that
I've "LANDED, FPM: 0, SPEED: 8KTS, Taxi To Gate or Parking". It shows these parameters until the conclusion
of the (resumed) flight and then records them in my flight log ~:\ Sometimes in these Resumed Saved Flight
situations VAFS gives credit for most of the flight time, but sometimes it only gives credit for the time up to the
point that FSX froze.

I'd like to try to determine if these issues are the result of "pilot error" (my procedure) or are peculiar to the
PMDG T7, or other.... To the best of my knowledge, I have correctly followed the step by step procedure
given by VAFS5 for "Resuming Saved Flight", but of course I could be missing something.
Two related files from my latest (two stage) FSX flight are attached.

Try this.

When you start FSX again, load the flight from FSX and not from the client. It will be called VAFS.flt

Then start the client. Then from there load the flight.

What that should do (in theory) is already have you up in the air and hopefully it will not detect that you are on the ground or landed.

PMDG are touchy entities to work with. Great airplanes but have a lot of stuff going on in the background that FSUIPC does not detect, at least in the current client.

Try that next time and let us know what happens.

Mike

OMG Sven !! I want a date with her LOL!! My 20 year old granddaughter
is at San Diego's Comic Convention this weekend. Perhaps she can get
me the date

Thank you for the procedure Mike. I'll try it first chance I get and then follow up.
I have already tried starting the engines at the origin airport and releasing the Parking
Brakes prior to pressing the "Resumed Save Flight" button, but the results were the
same. I'd even thought about doing the above, and then slewing the aircraft up
(in altitude) to perhaps indicate to the program that the T7 had not landed but
I haven tried it (the vertical slewing). I'm willing to play with this until we get it
right, if a solution is possible.
I'll try your suggestions next time...
Ken
